Sunset – Music for Evenings is an original electronic instrumental by Australian composer Justin James.
 
Written as the companion to Sunrise, the piece explores the slower rhythms of evening through warm synthesiser textures, expressive electric piano sounds and understated electronic percussion.
 
Drawing inspiration from ambient music, new age and smooth jazz, Sunset creates a relaxed musical environment rather than a traditional song structure. Its spacious electronic textures invite listeners to slow down, unwind and reflect as the day comes to a close.
 
Originally created on a Roland D-70 synthesiser with a Roland R-8 drum machine, the recording remained stored on D.A.T. for many years before being revisited and released.
 
Designed for quiet evenings, relaxation and mindful listening, Sunset is best experienced through headphones.
 
A Note from Justin
Sunset is one of two companion pieces I wrote after returning from my first visit to Los Angeles.
 
Radio stations such as The Wave and The Quiet Storm introduced me to a style of music that was spacious, understated and deeply relaxing. I found myself listening for hours, fascinated by how much atmosphere could be created with so little.
 
When I returned home, I sat at my Roland D-70 and began writing two simple electric piano pieces that would become Sunrise and Sunset. They were conceived as musical bookends to the day - one welcoming the morning, the other gently closing it.
 
The arrangements are intentionally minimal, with light percussion from a Roland R-8 drum machine supporting the piano rather than dominating it. Both recordings were archived on D.A.T. for many years before finally being revisited.
 
They are best experienced through headphones.
