About this Arrangement:

Vocalise is one of the most emotional pieces of music in the romantic/20th century repertoire.

Written as part of Fourteen Songs/Romances, Opus 34 for Piano and Voice, it has a renowned vocal part containing no lyrics, just a vowel, usually “ah” chosen by the performer. The piece was dedicated to Russian soprano Antonina Nezhdanova, who was hesitant to perform it due to the absence of words. Rachmaninoff, however, was convinced that the voice alone could convey profound emotion more powerfully than words. This deeply personal, expressive, melancholic melody allows for universal interpretation. This arrangement is for rich tones and textures of the cello and piano.
