Arrangement of Francis Poulenc's Mouvements Perpétuels by Justin James
Level: Intermediate - Advanced
About this Arrangement:
Composed circa 1918, written at the piano of the elementary school Saint-Martin-sur-le-Pre.
Pianist Alfred Cortot gave Poulenc’s Three-Movement Solo Piano piece Mouvements Perpétuels a pretty flowery description. “These movements are reflections of the ironical outlook of Satie adapted to the sensitive standards of the current intellectual circles.”
This first of these movements is a short piece in C major that is naive, playful and serene, ending inconclusively, leaving the music unresolved.
This arrangement extends the conversation just a little bit further, not adding anything to decontextual. The pieces were dedicated to Valentine Hugo, a renowned artist and writer. Yes, her husband was the great-grandson of Victor Hugo.
