About this Composition:
Mr Rogers Nervous System piano sheet music is an original contemporary piano solo by Justin James. Written as a tribute to Fred Rogers, this expressive work explores calmness, restraint and lyrical tonal colour, making it ideal for intermediate to advanced pianists seeking reflective modern repertoire.
A Note from Justin:
Fred McFeely Rogers, known as Mister Rogers, was a children’s educator from the United States. A man who devoted his life to sending a positive, loving message to all kids. He created and hosted the preschool television series "Mister Rogers’ Neighbourhood," which ran for 33 years from 1968 to 2001.
Rogers began learning the piano at five years old and developed a love for puppetry. Although he experienced a difficult and lonely childhood, he was able to turn this around during his high school years.
This is a musical tribute to a man with the peace of God in his heart. The sort of “slow motion” nervous system we would all love. I’m not suggesting he was a perfect person. And in some cases, his persona was just so self-effacing that it could potentially open him up for ridicule and satire. However, for the betterment of children, he was a champion.
If an asteroid (26858 Misterrogers) can be named after this man, then he thoroughly deserves the tip of a hat and a musical tribute to the embodiment of a commitment to something greater than himself.
