Knuckle Sandwiches
Original piano solo work.
Level: IntermediateAbout this Composition:
While hands can dance across the keyboard, this piece is for both the fleet of foot and hand. In boxing, dancing underpins the defence. In piano, it underpins the pedal, allowing for resonance, dampening and a softer palette. This piece is for piano, through the lens of the "dancing" boxer. Avoiding jabs, hooks, and swaying left and right. The piano replicates this movement to a lesser degree. Left and right hands dance across the keys, throwing jabs, developing a chin. Look out for the southpaw! It's the dance between avoiding or throwing a knuckle sandwich, in the form of fast quavers and semiquavers.
This is a study in touch, chordal repetition, counting rests and staccato elements. Ideal for students who are building their tactile skills and enhancing their musical technique. Practice slowly first without a glass jaw.
