About this Arrangement

One of J.S. Bach’s most recognised and enduring works is presented here in an arrangement for piano and cello by Justin James.

The warm, singing quality of the cello provides a natural voice for Bach’s celebrated melody, while the piano supports and interacts with it through the work’s characteristic flowing movement. The arrangement creates an intimate chamber interpretation that retains the contemplative and uplifting character of the original.

Written for two performers, the arrangement offers both players opportunities for expressive phrasing, careful ensemble balance and musical dialogue.
