About this Composition:
Essentially, this is about our essence. Existing without explanation. Holding space and time. It could be considered a piano study about nothing. The modern world is a sort of hyper-reality, where advanced cognition and complex social structures are the norm, yet more primates seem to have migrated out of their diaphragms and into their heads. Our collective operating system may need updating. We move around in a sort of Wi-Fi soup; our heads filled with an abundance of ideas. There are limbic stimulators and suggesters contained in every form of media. This music is ALL about reconnecting mind to body. It is not Cage’s 4’33” nor is it even close to avant-garde. It is a sidestep from John Cage 2.0. More like minimalism meets meditation, to go. Unlike Cage, the piano lid remains open for the entire performance. There are notes involved. And there is no suggestion of aleatoric improvisation. It has been far too long since we had one of those insane musical traditions that spread like wildfire, art for art's sake, before the collective consciousness could make an informed decision. Like crying bullshit at a ball game after a bad umpiring decision, trends can spread faster than humans can elevate their minds. Let’s catch a new wave of stupidity to accompany the declining currency.
