I have experimented a lot while composing this piece. I wanted the bass to be both supportive and foundational, while also having a starring role.
 
Bass Versus Piano is not so much about friction between the two instruments as it is about how they lend themselves to one another and share frequencies.
 
The piece is in ternary form. The opening section uses an upbeat blues framework, while the middle section is more emotive and inward-looking, pairing the warmth of the bass with flowing piano arpeggiation.
