Music is a large part of every culture. No matter where you are. Some see it through a wide
lens, as integral to a society. Others through a more distilled lens. The rest as a minor skin irritation at best.
Culture is made up of nodes. Lots of cycles, traditions, conversations, dogma, opinions and constructs.
Before a culture can truly thrive, we need our basic needs met. We need a social contract that is robust, sensible, fair and reasonable.
When our basic needs are met, we are fitter, stronger, emotional resilient and make good choices. This leads to a better society and to better art outcomes. The arts are generally the basket case of education, in terms of funding allocation, however there is nothing stopping us from dedicating our lives to learning an instrument, sharing our skills, applying those skills to music therapy or even musicology.
Art suffers when our culture is attacked, destroyed or under duress. However, there is also an upside to these conditions, in that certain aspects of culture emerge ever greater than before. Human beings are resourceful.
